Shortscale Hard Case for Fender Mustang Bass

Fender sells the “official” case for their Mustang/Bronco/Musicmaster bass, but guess how much it is? $150. For a case. Hellz naw. While I was shopping for a Mustang bass this year–2009–I also noticed a crazy price jump. It was $650 one night, then $850 the next. I looked around and noticed Fender had upped their prices almost all around. Nice recession move, guys.

In my first attempt, I found a forum thread where someone had recommended this bass case by Musician’s Gear. It was the full-size Precision/Jazz Fender Bass case, and someone said that it worked out fine for their Mustang Bass. The best part was that it was only $60 for a sweet-looking Tweed case ($50 for black). So i bought it. It was huge, too deep, heavy, and cheap-looking. I hated it! I sold it on Craigslist the same week.

Musicians Gear Bass Case in tweed. Too big.

Musician's Gear Bass Case in tweed. Too big. Smelled weird.

Sigh. I almost gave in and bought the Fender one, but one last Google effort revealed a company called Rondo Music, which has a whole line of shortscale basses (and other knockoff guitars), and look at that, a nice $50 shortscale bass case! It just came in today and I’m so happy with it. It’s small and cute, and fits the Mustang bass perfectly! The build quality was (almost) as good as a TKL case, despite being made in China. Best part is IT’S LESS THAN HALF THE PRICE OF THE FENDER CASE. Sorry, Fender, I love you, but your case prices are ridiculous. And I know they’re made in China too.
